329.- Stars – Wasted Daylight

Estos canadienses comenzaron a llamar mi atención allá por 2004 con su disco Set Yourself on Fire (2004) donde sobresalía Your Ex-Lover Is Dead, que abría el disco con toda una declaración de intenciones diciendo “When there is nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire” y acababa con esta estrofa “There’s one thing I want to say, so I’ll be brave, You were what I wanted I gave what I gave. I’m not sorry I met you, I’m not sorry it’s over, I’m not sorry there’s nothing to say“. Entre medias, en el minuto 1:40, la voz de Amy Millan pronuncia una frase de una manera que hace imposible que no te guste la música: “This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin…“. La letra de esta canción es sublime.

In Our Bedroom After the War (2007) fue un buen disco donde Take Me To The Riot tenía una gran melodía en el estribillo: “Saturday nights in neon lights, Sunday in the cell, Pills enough to make me feel ill, cash enough to make me well, Take me, take me to the riot“.

The Five Ghosts (2010) es mi álbum preferido. Crea una atmósfera increíble. El inicio de este disco lo sitúa en el TOP de LPs con las mejores tres canciones iniciales: Dead Hearts, Wasted Daylight, I Died So I Could Haunt You. Tras este inicio Fixed, We Don’t Want Your Body, la gran Changes y The Passenger ayudan a que el disco sea entretenido de principio a fin.

The North (2012) es agradable en líneas generales, pero no logra emocionarme tanto como los anteriores salvo en Hold On When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It, Backlines y The 400.

No One Is Lost (2014) es probablemente su disco más divertido. Comienzan por un trallazo disco, From the Night, y siguen con su single más vitaminado, This Is The Last Time. Luego Trap Door y No One Is Lost completan el poker de canciones sobresalientes.

Your Ex-Lover Is Dead

When there’s nothing left to burn you have to set yourself on fire

God that was strange to see you again
Introduced by a friend of a friend
Smiled and said “Yes I think we’ve met before”
In that instant it started to pour,
Captured a taxi despite all the rain
We drove in silence across Pont Champlain
And all of the time you thought I was sad
I was trying to remember your name

This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin
Tried to reach deep but you couldn’t get in
Now you’re outside me
You see all the beauty
Repent all your sin

It’s nothing but time and a face that you lose
I chose to feel it and you couldn’t choose
I’ll write you a postcard
I’ll send you the news
From a house down the road from real love

Live through this, and you won’t look back
Live through this, and you won’t look back
Live through this, and you won’t look back

There’s one thing I want to say, so I’ll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I’m not sorry I met you
I’m not sorry it’s over
I’m not sorry there’s nothing to save
